Dwight Eisenhower is a complex figure. During the World War 2 he was an obvious protegé of Powers that Be. His career was meteoric and unprecedented. In 1944 nobody had a clue where this guy who was at the time The Allies' Supreme Commander in Europe came from and why.
With cold blood he presided over slow genocide of millions of Germans after the War was over. He was rewarded handsomely for his war and post-war crimes with the office of POTUS.
But his Farewell Address show the other side of Ike - that of a concerned citizen and patriot. His Address is still worth our while:
